2007's Event was a Great Success!!!

The 1st Coaches Convention and Expo put on by Soccer Rhode Island which was held at the Crowne Plaze in Warwick, on March 24th & 25th, 2007 was a Great Success!!!

OK! So you may think that my comments are a little bias as I was one of the instructors teaching at the event. However; after talking to many of the 36 Vendors and many of the hundreds of coaches, parents, players, referees, etc that attended; I feel my comments are justified.

Sam Snow (US Youth Soccer Director of Coaching), Sue Ryan (Region I ODP Director), Dan Gaspar (International Goal Keeping Coach), Oscar Delemos (Soccer-RI Director of Coaching), Kevin Fraser, Steve Marmas, & Hugh McCracken (Soccer-RI Coaching Education Staff) all held demonstrations in the Grand Ballroom to which every session was jam packed. The players who helped in each session enjoyed themselves and enjoyed being taught some new activities and the comments from the attending coaches and parents were very positive.

Clinics:

  • 60 Coaches obtained their Youth Level II Certification
  • 35 Coaches/Parents attended the Novice clinic and received a free Novice Coaching DVD
  • 5 Coaches obtained their 2-Year CPR Certification
  • Referee Grade 8 Recertifications were held (confirming #'s)

    There were also various classroom sessions given on;

  • Strength & Conditoning (Steve Froberg - Soccer-RI Education Staff), The New England Revolution (James Apajee - NE Revolution Staff), Olympic Development (Phyllis Fish - Soccer-RI ODP Director), Recreation Program (Paul Hoxsie - Soccer-RI Recreational Director), TOPSoccer & Positive Parenting (Jim Kelly - TOPSoccer & Soccer Start Director), Risk Management (Steve Mauricio - Soccer-RI Memnbership Director), Registrar's Round Table (Barbara Labossiere - Soccer-RI Registrar), Tresurer's Round Table (Chuck Griffith - Soccer-RI Treasurer), Association President's Round Table (Larry Fish - Soccer-RI President) & Director of Coaches Round Table (Sam Snow, Kevin Fraser, Steve Marmas & Jay Primiano).

    Some of the comments given:

"I am pleasantly surprised at the number of attendees for your 1st event"
~Sport Pins International (Jeff traveled all the way from San Diego for this event - Thanks Jeff!)

"I wasn't sure what to expect, but was very glad that I came. I will definitely be back again next year"
~Coach who attended the Level II Clinic and demo sessions

"This was very helpful, I wish there were more events like this"
    ~Coach in Sam Snow's 8v8 demo session

    "Wow! that was great..."
~Coach who attended Dan Gaspar's "Goal Keepers Dance"

Many of the vendors were offering various ideas for Fund raising and are having follow-up meetings with various associations and clubs.

The Awards Dinner which was attended by approx. 200 people and the comedy act by the Ocean State Follies were a big success. Just ask Paul Hoxsie...

    Comments from Attendees and Vendors:

    SportsGiftsToDay
I have attended many Soccer Conferences held by NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Association of America), US Youth Soccer, and many business conferences throughout the world and this was definately one to remember. We had coaches and parents stopping by our booth to purchase watches and to find out how they can sell our Offically Licensed MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL, NASCAR, & NCAA Watches as a Fund Raiser for their clubs and associations. We are already meeting with some of the associations who inquired and we are setting up dates to come to their events. If you are interested in how we can help your club/association to raise money give us a call at (401) 623-0279 and ask for Steve or email us at FundRaising@SportsGiftsToDay.com

    Sincerely,

    Soccer Spot Rhode Island
The Soccer Expo was a huge success for our soccer specialty store, Soccer Spot Rhode Island. We had a steady stream of visitors to our booth and many great giveaways were awarded each hour. Scott DiScuillo and I will definitely return next year. I spent the entire day on Monday writing bid proposals for products that we offer through our Team Sales Division. Kudos to the organizing committee, for doing the research to make the experience of participating in the SRI Soccer Expo, a true success. I didn’t even have time to sit down to eat the great breakfast and lunch that you provided. It was like “Old Home Week” for me as I met with all of my soccer friends from the State of Rhode Island. I believe that there were 4,000 people at the event and we had 400 people enter our raffle to receive gifts such as the Ronaldinho replica shirt and other great stuff. We couldn’t be happier with having invested in Soccer Rhode Island’s Soccer Expo.

    Sincerely,
    Jay Primiano Team Sales Manager,
Soccer Spot Rhode Island Camp Director

    Seaside Classic
On behalf of the South County Youth Soccer Club and the Seaside Classic Committee, I want to thank the SRI Board of Directors and specifically the Soccer Expo Committee for their fine work in providing a first class program and business expo. I believe that we delivered approximately 500 brochures to interested team coaches during the eight hours we were open. I look forward to a successful return on our very worthwhile investment and I trust that the initiative of providing more opportunities for teams from Rhode Island to participate in our highly respected and competitive Seaside Classic Soccer Tournament this year will come to fruition.

    Sincerely,
    Jay Primiano
